ChemBE at the Technical University of Denmark

Denmark DTU

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) offers a special lab 3-week course for international students in English over the summer. The course includes 6 experiments using state-of-the-art process equipment and field trips to local chemical plants. DTU is one of Europe's top-ranked technical universities.

Eligibility

Students should have a theoretical background in chemical unit operations. Prior coursework in inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry, thermodynamics, physics and mathematics is also recommended.

Courses and Credits

4 JHU credits

EN.540.312 Chemical Unit Operations Laboratory In this 4-week summer course, students will work in DTU’s 600-700 m2 pilot plant – a unit operation laboratory comprising four halls of large-scale facilities. In groups of two, students will perform four exercises in the following areas: flow in pumps, pipes and fittings, flow through particle beds, heat transmission, distillation, absorption, extraction, filtration, membrane filtration, centrifugation, drying, ion exchange, evaporation/crystallization, agitation, aeration, high temperature processes, organic synthesis, solid transport and separation, CIP-processes. The course includes several fieldtrips to local chemical plants.Denmark - Rosenborg Castle

Cost

 
The cost of the program in Summer 2018 was $4,250. The program cost for Summer 2019 will be posted soon. The program fee will be billed to the JHU student account and includes housing, tuition, and international health insurance.
