Summer Research at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)

Lausanne - Stone House


EPFL, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne) in Switzerland aims to attract students to the heart of Europe where renowned professors strive for excellence in research and international recognition. Students spend up to 3 months in a laboratory on campus undertaking research with renowned professors and researchers. The summer research opportunity offers:

  • A 3-month research internship that run June through August (dates can be flexible) with Scholarships of Excellence available for selected candidates in a world-class technical European University;
  • A practical, innovative and formative program – hands-on research in a lab, pioneer projects, intensive academic and professional experience gain;
  • Immersion in an international and groundbreaking environment – 110 nationalities, cutting-edge projects (winner of Solar Decathlon and Human Brain Project), trans-disciplinary research and tech transfer (Innovation Park);
  • Excellent supervision by top international professors – passion, rigor and excellence; mentorship and guidance;
  • First-rate labs – 350 laboratories, sophisticated equipment, strong team-spirit;
  • A life experience in a vibrant campus with excellent infrastructures in a beautiful spot by Lake Geneva – 10,500 students, community spirit, cultural, sports and fun activities, at the center of Europe.
It is possible for students spending the Spring semester on the exchange program at EPFL to combine this research internship with that experience. Students interested in pursuing this will meed to submit both the semester and summer program applications.

Students will earn 3 ungraded JHU credits for the course, EN.500.501 General Engineering Research, upon successful completion of the program.

There is a dual application process for this program.

(1) Students must complete the Hopkins application by clicking the green "Apply Now" button at the top/bottom of this page
AND
(2) Students must complete the program application, which you can access on the website listed here or under More Information, below.

The deadline for this program is very early -- students must submit the Hopkins application by October 1st and the EPFL applications by October 31st, 2018, in order to be considered for a Summer 2019 opportunity.
