Intern Abroad in Mexico - Cuernavaca

Why Mexico?
Mexico’s vibrant culture is a melting pot of influences that are ancient and modern, local and international. This dynamic and lively environment is ideal location for interns who want to experience cultural immersion both in and out of the workplace and to feel connected to an international community of professionals in their field. Interns in Mexico have the opportunity to practice their Spanish in a real world setting while gaining hands on work experience that will give them a competitive advantage in the work place.

Interns can expect to work side by side with local colleagues, receive direction from a manager or staff member, and behave just as one would in a real job. On weekends or after work hours, interns engage in a host of activities depending on each participant’s tastes. Interns share meals with new friends or host family members, take in cultural events, explore the city, or even take day or weekend trips outside of the area. World Endeavors provides a list of possible activities in the area and the World Endeavors local coordinator can also function as an ever present guide and ambassador to the area.

Program Information**

Live in Cuernavaca, Mexico
Cuernavaca is known as the city of eternal spring, and it lives up to this reputation with its many parks, gardens, tree-lined streets, and ornate flower beds. The city boasts landmarks such as ancient Aztec ruins and the cathedral which is a masterpiece of Spanish colonial architecture. These sights speak to Cuernavaca’s storied history as a cultural center for the various groups who came to rule it over the centuries. The influences left by these groups are felt today in the language, dress, food, art, music, and lifestyle of the city.

Program Snapshot

Language Training: World Endeavors’ Internship in Mexico program includes 120 hours of immersive Spanish language training during the first four weeks of the program, for all interns staying two months or longer. Interns spend the first four weeks in Mexico concentrating on their Spanish language skills, and then transition into their internship beginning in the fifth week. Interns with a stronger command of Spanish may in some cases begin their internship earlier.

Housing : Interns in Mexico live in single or shared rooms with host families. Host families provide support for interns, introducing them to Mexican culture and giving them an opportunity to practice their Spanish. Interns also share meals with their host family, and may learn to prepare some typical Mexican dishes.

Dates: Internships are available year round, and each placement is customized for the participant. This means that World Endeavors interns can choose the start date and duration of their internship, as well as the field. Due to holidays, traditional vacation schedules, and seasonal work availability, there might be better times than others to intern in a specific location or in a specific field. Our advisors work with interns to ensure that their timeframe works adequately with the internship site. This communication is a key to creating a successful internship placement.

Duration: A minimum duration of two months is recommended.
