Announcement: Hopkins Intersession Costa Rica Info Session

Event Date: 09/10/2026
Join us to learn about studying abroad in Costa Rica this intersession.

This unique global health program combines a ½ semester prep course on campus in the fall and a 10-day study trip to rural, southern Costa Rica in January. This course (3 credits in total) provides a comprehensive understanding of health and the social, political, cultural, behavioral, and economic forces that influence health access, outcomes, and systems by engaging in various learning formats such as community engagement, field excursions, and workshops.

Participants will experience the multifaceted components that determine health through a series of site visits, emphasizing a multisectoral and transdisciplinary approach to managing the transcultural dimensions of worldwide health inequities. Site visits include a Primary Healthcare clinic, a border post, local NGOs, and an indigenous territory. As a culmination of the program, participants will have the opportunity to visit one of Costa Rica's most popular National Parks for a leisurely beach day.
